Supporting a loved one with type 1 diabetes is a big responsibility, requiring caregivers to show up each day with grace, patience, and a whole lot of love.

No two days are the same, and the journey can be physically, mentally, and emotionally demanding for the entire T1D family.

But with the right support and a clear path, the caregiver journey can transform into an empowering and fulfilling experience for both you and your family.

Why Type Won Coaching™ Was Born

That’s where Type Won Coaching™ comes in. As a T1D caregiver and champion myself, I saw a deep need to better support the unsung heroes behind every T1D warrior – passionate and dedicated caregivers like you.

I’ve experienced firsthand how our energy, outlook, and beliefs as caregivers have a monumental impact on our loved one with T1D. In my own household, I know that when I’m feeling off, frustrated, or just in a funk. My attitude creates a ripple effect for the entire family.

As mothers, we have a sacred role in helping set the tone and energy within our homes. We get to decide how we show up for our family. It’s a tremendous responsibility, but it also offers incredible opportunities.

Far too often, T1D caregivers don’t receive the attention or support they need. Of course, you prioritize your child’s needs, but this should never come at the expense of your own well-being.

With 36% of T1D caregivers reporting burnout – feelings of anxiety, exhaustion, and frustration – things need to change.

It’s like the famous saying, “You need to put your own oxygen mask on first before helping others.” This couldn’t be more true, especially when the diabetes journey is anything but linear.

That’s why I’m passionate and committed to helping T1D caregivers thrive in mind, body, and spirit. Diabetes asks a lot, and trust me, I’ve been there. But I’m also here to remind you that your needs matter. You deserve to feel your best, both within yourself and how you care for your family.

Type Won Coaching™ was founded to empower, support, and encourage you and your family to thrive along the T1D journey. Our family is thriving, and I know yours can too!

So how do we get there? Through a transformative coaching journey that puts your needs and desires at the forefront. Coaching doesn’t tell you what to do – instead, as a health coach, I believe you are the expert in your own life.

My role is to create a safe, supportive space where we explore the 4 pillars of Type Won Coaching™ – helping to guide you and your family toward greater balance, health, and vitality. All while keeping you in the driver’s seat of your unique journey.

Mindset is the foundation for everything, especially when it comes to supporting a loved one with T1D. Our beliefs and thoughts about ourselves, diabetes, and our role as caregivers influence how we handle daily challenges, stress, and victories.

At Type Won Coaching™, we begin by exploring your mindset – both in your relationship with diabetes and beyond. As Carol Dweck’s research on growth mindset shows, adopting a mindset that embraces learning and growth can empower us to handle adversity with resilience.

According to Dweck, when we believe our abilities can be developed through effort and learning, we are more likely to persevere in the face of challenges. This holds true for the diabetes journey as well.

Whenever I’m feeling overwhelmed, whether by diabetes support or life in general, I always check in with my mindset. There’s incredible power in slowing down, reflecting, and choosing to shift our perspective.

Health coaching is all about forward progress, momentum, and celebrating every win – no matter what size.

As your coach, I’ll walk with you every step of the way, helping you explore your values, beliefs, and mindset. By shifting to a mindset of empowerment and confidence, you and your family can feel more in control of the T1D journey, rather than overwhelmed by it.

When we embrace a growth mindset – the belief that we can learn, adapt, and improve – we reduce burnout, stress, and feelings of overwhelm. Gradually, we can reframe negative beliefs into self-trust, confidence, and unwavering self-belief.

Action Step

The beauty of mindset is that we can start to transform it today! So why not start now? Let’s begin by reframing one not-so-stellar thought you have about T1D caregiving.

For example, instead of thinking, “I’m not doing enough,” can you try, “I’m learning, growing, and doing my best for my child every day.”

Write down your positive new thought and keep it somewhere you can see daily. Remember, a small shift like this can have a profoundly positive impact on both your outlook and attitude.

Pillar #2: Food

Why Food Matters

Food is at the heart of blood sugar management and vibrant health and well-being. Eating well is about finding a sustainable way to nourish your entire family without the stress of restrictive diets or conflicting advice.

At Type Won Coaching™, we focus on helping you discover the foods that support stable blood sugars while allowing for flexibility and enjoyment at the table.

We believe that food should be a source of joy, not a cause of stress. Say goodbye to obsessing over calorie counts and the number on the scale!

Instead, as your health coach, my goal is to empower you to cut through the clutter and embrace an approach to food that feels good to you and your family. You might be surprised by how simple swaps can have a profoundly positive impact.

At Type Won Coaching™, we focus on creating a balanced lifestyle that simplifies rather than complicates your routine. We’ll work together to discover what feels right for YOU while making it easier to support your family’s needs.

By prioritizing sleep and better managing stress, you can ease the challenges of the diabetes journey.

Good sleep supports blood sugar regulation, and stress management tools like mindfulness and movement help keep cortisol levels in check, which directly impacts blood sugar.

It also teaches valuable lessons about responsibility, self-care, and collaboration, setting them up for success in managing their diabetes as they grow.

Teamwork can look different for every family. The support you build around diabetes, both within and outside the home, is unique and personal.
